After months of dreaming and planning, the adventure has begun! Today marked the start of Intrigue Goes to Ireland, a journey filled with creativity, friendship, and a touch of Irish enchantment. From the bustling streets of Dublin to the storybook charm of Sligo, Day One reminded us why there’s nothing quite like gathering artists together in an unforgettable place.
A Scenic Start Through the Irish Countryside
Our day began bright and early at the Harding Hotel in Dublin, where florists, photographers, and videographers climbed aboard the coach, ready for the most picturesque of road trips. As we left the city behind, rolling green hills stretched endlessly in every direction.
Our first stop — the Rock of Dunamase — took our breath away. Perched high above the plains, these ancient castle ruins whispered stories of centuries past as cameras clicked and laughter echoed through the Irish wind.
Next, we made our way to Treacy’s Pub, one of Ireland’s oldest operating pubs dating back to 1780. With its cozy thatched roof, crackling fire, and hearty fare, it was the perfect place to slow down, share a meal, and soak up the local charm. Over lunch, new friendships blossomed and familiar faces reconnected — and somewhere between bites of shepherd’s pie and sips of Irish tea, the feeling of community truly took root.
Welcome to Markree Castle
By mid-afternoon, we rolled through the gates of Markree Castle, a 500-acre estate brimming with gardens, stone towers, and fairytale beauty at every turn.
As our coaches pulled up the long drive, guests were greeted by the stirring sound of a traditional bagpiper, his notes echoing across the castle grounds. It was the perfect welcome — a moment that sent chills down our spines and smiles across every face.
Stepping inside, we were immediately transported into another world. Towering stone walls, sweeping staircases, and elegantly appointed chambers awaited each guest — our home for the next three days.
Our florists quickly settled into the Ballroom for the first hands-on workshop of the retreat, bringing European floral style to life in grand Irish fashion. Meanwhile, our media attendees explored every dreamy corner of the castle during an exclusive shoot curated by Styled Shoot Across America.
Somewhere in the midst of the creative buzz, we met a new furry friend — Fionn, the castle dog — who happily greeted guests and claimed his spot as the unofficial mascot of the retreat.
Portraits, Celebrations & a Feast to Remember
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, everyone traded shears and cameras for gowns and suits, gathering in the Living Room for formal portraits with the renowned Theo Milo. There was laughter, elegance, and more than a few proud tears as attendees dressed like royalty inside the castle walls.
The evening unfolded in candlelight for our Welcome Dinner — a feast fit for kings and queens inside the castle’s chapel. At the heart of the room was a breathtaking tablescape composed of 72 monofloral arrangements, each a bloom in harmony, representing the artistry and unity of our group.
The night was filled with storytelling, toasts, and pure joy — made even sweeter as we celebrated Ilissa’s birthday with new friends from across the world. And in true Intrigue fashion, this first night became more than an event — it became a family affair. Some attendees brought parents, partners, and children along for the journey, while others used this trip to mark personal milestones — weddings, anniversaries, or simply a long-dreamed-of creative escape.
A Magical Beginning
If today is any indication of what’s to come, we’re in for something extraordinary. Ireland has already begun to weave its spell — and this is only Day One.
Stay tuned as the floral magic continues tomorrow inside the castle walls, where inspiration and imagination will collide in the most enchanting ways.
